Believe in Fate?

Ever since I was born, I (like many of those from the religious families) have been taught these two religious postulates:

1. God has given us brain to think and in turn the "freedom of choice". And we should use this freedom wisely so that we do not do anything that is bad and against the God's will.
2. Nothing in this world is possible against the God's will.

The above two postulates if taken separately sounds good, but becomes contradictory when taken together. If both 1 & 2 is true, and by the freedom of choice one chooses & succeeds to do anything that is bad, then by taking postulate 2, it was not against the God's will. If it was God's will, then why should he be punished?

This reminds me of two little girls playing with a bunch of dolls. They give a name to each doll and decide one of them is bad and finally at the end of the game, good doll punishes the bad one. Everything is pre-decided.

So, the question is: Why do people have aspirations. when the outcome is pre-decided. Is this what we call fate?

Cut the crap... That's the reason why, I don't believe in fate.

What do you believe in?
Make your own destiny OR have faith in such a pre-decided world where someone else controls you...

"If you want something, try and try until you succeed. No fate can stop you or give it to you."

I think fate is something that we use as excuse when we cant explain the failures of our action. Fate is something that you make for yourself. Nothing is pre-decided.

Ok buddy, let me summarize your long talk in my words -

Luck matters and that's for sure.

And for those who haven't luck line in their hands at all, still no one can stop them to shine brighter than those so called lucky people if they believe in themselves and their values.

But...luck plays its role and it makes you feel disappointed at times.

Hmmmm ..... ummmm....I don't know how to start .... liked the way Mr. Anonymous has started.

Fate, Luck, Destiny .....blah blah... Well I must admit that I do believe in all these .... But they do exist along with few other parameters called planning, intelligence, effort, will power...blah blah. There exists very complex relationship between all these.

Let me try ..... First of all I do not agree with Ms Divya. Fate is not an excuse always(though some may use is as an excuse). I don't feel that there is always an explanation to a FAILURE or SUCCESS. Though people who have succeded claim that it was there ability, will power, intelligence, effort.... etc etc....that brought him/her to this stage. But they know that there was FATE helping him/her all the times.

I know …I know people will shout at me that I do not appreciate their effort. But have they ever thought over following points :
Who made you boy or girl? ….. FATE.
Who gave you a FAMILY that provided you the environment for studies etc?.... FATE.
Who made you son/daughter of rich/poor parents? ….. FATE
These things are out of your control.

Two friends, both very intelligent, were going for IIT prelims. Their bus met with an accident and one of them got fractures in his right hand and could not appear for the test. The other friend did well and cracked JEE and did B.Tech(Chem) from IIT Guwahati. What do you think …. Was there anybody ???? LUCK ??? FATE ???? …. Yes there was something ….. nobody knows what ?? He is working with Dr. Reddy’s Lab, Hyd.

Well what happened to other friend….. He missed prelims so no chance for IIT, atleast for that time. But he managed a good rank in CET (Karnataka) and did B.Tech(Comp) from PESIT, Bangalore. Who can explain his FAILURE that he couldn’t make to IITs. Was that his own choice. You know what …. this guy is currently with FreeScale, Noida. Working on designing semiconductor devices. Now he is very happy that he had that “fracture”….. do you know what could have happened if he wouldn’t have had fracture.

Well …. I must stop now ….. I feel there exist FATE, LUCK etc ….. They are there to help you at times and at times they do put lot of obstacles in your path. Its your intelligence, patience, effort, will power ….that will help you move ahead carefully and achieve you GOAL.

So don’t think why it happened …… just see where you stand and what are the options from that point onwards and get yourself moving on the paths available there. Of course you are free to make your own path and set examples for others.

BEST OF LUCK (For them who believe)

Time to go home …..

Hope you will forgive me …. for the BAKAR.
Cheers
Prashant

let me try....

I do agree with Prashant...
I believe no one knows what is right/wrong or good/bad...Everything that we all decide to do is according to our priorities likes-dislikes, conditions, situations and what we think is right and good for us....some times we do succeed or have to face failure…
Its always delighting to be successful in return of all our efforts but in case of failure though we lose something and we feel sad for that moment but I feel its always for your good…there is something better for you that has to come to you later….also we get to learn so much after failure, exceptions apart though.
Now, coming to Vishal’s point. I believe God never decides anything bad for us that’s why He is called GOD and we believe and pray Him…What ever happens is for our good and there is a purpose behind it but we cry on failure because we can’t see the future……so I believe GOD/Fate does exist.

That’s all from my side

well before stating anything about this issue and taking my position on either side I would like to withdraw your attention to one very basic question. What is good and what is bad? What are the parameters to judge that. How do we decide that the person working on semiconductors is happy and the other one is not happy. Is it something to be decided by material parameters or is it something which makes us feel good or bad, laugh or cry, gives comfort or discomfort... i wonder what is it?? As happens at the end of the day everything becomes fine...what is that end of the day?? is it the point when you feel good again? how do we know that my present position is fine or not fine? May I take extreme case and say that over a period people get bored by your own sorrow and no longer want to carry the burden so they compromise with their current position and look for something *better in it and feel *good about it. For some people it can happen the very next moment and for others it may take a whole life time...well i am not confused but i don't even want to say that i know everything. Well i am still contemplating. May be it is not so easy to understand in such a short period of life.
After all their had been civilisation for thousands of years and still no body could come to a valid conclusion. May be that's why they introdused the concept of GOD and it's premises. I mean something which can not be explained in absolute terms but by taking it as an assumption many more problems can be solved.

I agree with Random thoughts to alot of extent... Things we cant explain we put it to fate. Well to answer Mr Prashant.. I did spend time on questions like you have put in the forum and the answer i get was "its random"... there is nothng that was predecided in this. Its liek a simple random number generation program. I dont think it was predecided that where will i b born... who will be my parents...it just happened and as earlier mentioned since we dont knw the reasons we put it to fate.
Why my life took such a course?? I think it happens to be like this coz of my actions.
Also I would like to put same question again... What is good or bad???
Something that is good for you might be bad for other... its all relative, as rightly said my Random Thoughts... its a situation wen you dont want to carry your own sorrows any further and want to discharge them(extreme case scenario) and be satisfied with what you have. And mostly(not always) ppl say 'jo hua achhe ke liye hua' coz they dont have the courage to accept their failure. How can you be so sure that had yu did a little differently in the first step itself thn your life wud have not been better thn wat yu r in now???

To make my earlier point clear...

I had said "I think fate is something that we use as excuse when we cant explain the failures of our action." I mentioned 'Failure' coz most of us wud like to give d credit of our success to our hard work and proper planning and execution but when we fail we put it to fate. I should have been more diplomatic and removed the particular term :o) ..

As for the incident prashant mentioned... I still think dat watever happened was a random execution of event... may b an irresponsible action on the part of bus driver and ne1 cud hav got hurt. I dont agree dat all this was predecided... had everythng gone fine the friend who got into CET might have got IIT K compSc... and may be now he would have been in a better place. I dont thnk that all this was predecided.
Yes if you give all this random execution of events a term I can accept it as Fate but still i dont agree that its is predecided.

No hard feelings...
I liek to debate :) .. hope to meet you in person sometime.. nd I am not Ms... hehehe ..Cheers mate....

Hmmm...
So, the combination of postulates turns wrong, when a man commits sth. wrong out of "free will" & everything is predestined acc.to 2nd postulate.

I wld like to ask a question:- while u r reading this text r u in "motion" or "sitting & stationary"? You wld. most probably answer "I m sitting & stationary" but brother; this turns out to be a limited perspective, coz earth is rotating & revolving 24X7.........

But that's not your fault, its human nature, we see & feel things from our own perspective ignoring the phenomenal "theory of relativity or relativeness".

So, that's how it goes:- when man commits sth. "bad" its "bad" only in human perspective,God is far more advanced, ahead, superior, omnipresent & omnipotent to do the ratings for humans as "bad ones" & "good ones".
We are punishing the man as he has hurt us in some way,its not God's order to do that.

And yes, I do not say; that people must relax & let "God & Fate" take the charge of their duties.
I myself believe that:- GOD DOES NOT HELP THOSE ;WHO CANNOT HELP THEMSELVES.
So,everthing is balanced & there is nothing wrong with either of the postulates.

I dont know, whether its just bcoz of the state of mind I am in right now or if it is that truely I agree with "Nothing Like Fate" idea or concept.

I have always been a believer that one would get what one deserves... and dunno if this belief is a by-blow of the mentioned 'postulates' and likes which have cloggeded my intellect but one thing which i still can diffrentiate from rest of the clutter in my brain right now is... if there at all is something like Fate then guess its here to settle some old scores with me!!!

Its difficult to accept the truths and at the same time immpossible to traverse them....

Hi guys. before i get started lemme appreciate everyone's beatiful and varied thoughts in the entire article. See how diverse we are yet united. I dont say any bodies view out here is bad. Coz each person formulates his thinking based on his experiences he's had. I am a god beleiving person. But i do admit that at times, specially when things are out of my reach, i get frustrated and wonder if there's fate or what is it that i can do to get me in a better position. I agree with prashant, that there is something which keeps all things going. So many a times, things are'nt under our control. I have seen in some families, how due to a small misunderstanding, or some ones perception the whole family has to suffer. If you scrath the surface you realise its not ur fault at all, or not ur failure at all. Some one did it and you face it. My trust on fate became strong when i met a swamiji who told me all about my past and present and future. It was all right. Before any incedent happened he used to warn me about it and would ask me to take certain steps to avoid it, but no matter how hard i tried on his words, i did same the situation, like the way he had said. Things were not at any ones control inspite of knowing it before hand. Thats coz the person who did it was so adament on doing it. So this is what i call fate. Till date, all that the swamiji had told me would happen, has taken palce the same exact way. So i believe that there are events and life path decided for each one of us. We might not reralize it until, the day comes, for what we are created. And dont you think, by trusting god or believing in fate, we loosen our burden or failure etc. When we tell him all our sorrows, we feel so releived that there is some one to take care of us. Else this is a world full of uncertainties, what and whom can we trust. And i also beleive that its one measure to cut the ego and "I" did it. By saying, " it was all possible coz of god's grace" we kill the ego and sound humble to others. Why take the momentary pride of our little success when it was some one else's before us, and will be some body else's after us. Take care and forgive me if any of your feelings are hurt. Bye.
